Gripex

Gripex is available in the form of film-coated tablets or powder for oral solution, depending on user preference or doctor's instructions. Regardless of the form of presentation, each dose of Gripex contains a fixed combination of active substances in carefully established therapeutic proportions to ensure clinical efficacy and safety.

For example, Gripex Duo combines the antipyretic and analgesic action of paracetamol with the nasal decongestant effect of phenylephrine.

Gripex is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of colds and flu, as well as respiratory tract conditions such as sinusitis, rhinitis, pharyngitis or bronchitis.

The paracetamol in Gripex has analgesic and antipyretic action, helping to reduce pain caused by infections – such as sore throat, headache, myalgia and joint or bone pain – and to reduce fever and subfebrile conditions associated with them.

Vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, supporting the body's natural defences against infections. It also has an antioxidant role, protecting cells against oxidative stress and supporting recovery during periods of illness.

In general, the medicine is intended for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

The usual recommended dose depends on the concentration and form of release. For Gripex Duo, the recommended dose is 1-2 tablets taken orally at 4-hour intervals, not exceeding 8 tablets per day. For Gripex Hot Max, 1 sachet is taken every 4-6 hours.

If symptoms persist, clinical re-evaluation of the patient is necessary, without increasing the dose.

Gripex should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to paracetamol, pseudoephedrine, dextromethorphan or any of the ingredients of the medicine. Other contraindications include:

• severe or untreated high blood pressure;
• serious heart disease or rhythm problems;
• history of stroke;
• severe breathing, liver or kidney problems;
• diabetes;
• overactive thyroid;
• angle-closure glaucoma;
• epilepsy or history of seizures;
• glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.

Patients with moderate hepatic impairment, alcoholism or viral hepatitis are at increased risk of paracetamol-associated liver toxicity and require dose adjustment or clinical monitoring.

The medicine should not be used in combination with other products containing paracetamol due to the risk of overdose.

Gripex, like any medicine, can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. For a full list of side effects, see the package leaflet. The most common reactions include:

• insomnia, irritability, nervousness
• dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting
• allergic skin rashes, itching or hives
• dry mouth, palpitations, headache.

Gripex interacts with many medicines, which can lead to severe side effects or increased toxicity. Therefore, concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors is strictly contraindicated due to the risk of severe reactions.

Paracetamol interacts with alcohol and some hepatotoxic drugs, increasing the risk of liver damage. It also interacts with various drugs such as anticoagulants, barbiturates, cholestyramine, metoclopramide, etc.

Tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking for chronic conditions to avoid possible interactions.

Initial symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, excessive sweating and abdominal pain, followed, after 24-48 hours, by signs of severe liver damage (jaundice, coagulopathy, hepatic encephalopathy). Rapid medical intervention is essential, and the specific antidote (acetylcysteine) should be administered as soon as possible.

Gripex should be stored at temperatures below 25°C, away from moisture and direct light. It is important to keep the product out of the reach of children. The tablets should be stored in their original packaging and the product should not be used after the expiry date stated on the box.
