Alerfree

Alerfree is available as oral drops, supplied in a pack containing a 10 ml bottle fitted with a precise dosing system. 

The liquid form allows for easy administration to newborns and infants, ensuring a consistent dose and greater compliance. Each dose provides 1 × 10⁹ CFU (colony-forming units) of Bifidobacterium breve M-16V, with no added allergens, genetically modified organisms or unnecessary excipients.

Alerfree probiotic is particularly suitable for:

• newborns and infants at high risk of allergies, including eczema and atopic dermatitis;
• children with digestive allergies or early food sensitivities;
• babies born prematurely or by caesarean section, situations associated with suboptimal gut colonisation;
• infants who are not exclusively breastfed or who have been exposed to pre- or postnatal antibiotic treatment;
• mothers, during the prenatal and postnatal periods, to promote the transfer of microbiota to the baby.

The recommended dose is 5 drops per day, taken after meals, for at least one month. Depending on the clinical context, family history of allergies or the doctor’s recommendations, treatment may be extended. 

The drops may be administered directly into the mouth or mixed with breast milk, formula or food at room temperature, avoiding hot liquids so as not to compromise the viability of the bacteria.

Alerfree is generally well tolerated and safe for paediatric use. 

Contraindications are limited and include known hypersensitivity to any of the product’s components. In children with severe immunodeficiencies or serious medical conditions, probiotics should only be administered on the advice of a doctor.

An important advantage of Alerfree is its safety profile, supported by clinical studies conducted on children, including premature infants. The product is allergen-free and is also safe for infants with hypersensitivity to cow’s milk proteins. 

Daily administration at constant doses promotes effective colonisation of the gut and stabilisation of the microbiota during the critical period of immune development.

Side effects are rare and, when they do occur, are mild and transient, manifesting as slight changes in bowel movements, such as mild bloating or looser stools, particularly at the start of treatment. 

These symptoms usually reflect the adaptation of the microbiota and do not require discontinuation of treatment.

Alerfree can be administered concurrently with most medicines commonly used in the neonatal and paediatric periods. In the event of concurrent administration with antibiotics, an interval of at least 2–3 hours between the antibiotic and the probiotic is recommended to avoid a reduction in bacterial viability. 

No adverse interactions with food are known, as the product is compatible with both breast milk and formula feeding.

No cases of overdose associated with Alerfree have been reported. Thanks to its probiotic nature and high safety profile, accidentally exceeding the recommended dose should not cause significant adverse effects. 

However, it is recommended to adhere to the indicated daily dose and to consult a doctor in specific situations.

The product must be stored in accordance with the instructions on the packaging, in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and sources of heat. Once opened, the bottle must be used within the period recommended by the manufacturer to ensure the stability and efficacy of the probiotic strain.
