Amrase

Amrase is available in the form of gastric-resistant tablets, packaged in boxes of 30 units. The tablets are coated with a special enteric coating that protects the enzyme content from premature destruction in the acidic gastric environment. This pharmaceutical feature allows the active substances to be released only in the small intestine, where they act effectively in the digestive process.

Amrase tablets are recommended as an adjunct in the treatment of digestive disorders (dyspepsia) of various aetiologies, such as:

• Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency with reduced secretion of digestive enzymes;
• Biliary disorders with dysfunction in bile secretion and flow;
• Post-resection syndromes, such as intestinal resections, which limit normal enzymatic digestion;
• Non-specific dyspeptic symptoms, such as bloating, epigastric pain, nausea, belching or constipation;
• Overeating, especially after excessive consumption of fats and hard-to-digest proteins;

The usual recommended dose is one tablet with each main meal (usually three times a day), taken shortly before or during the meal. The dosage may be adjusted by the doctor depending on the severity of the symptoms and the individual diagnosis.

Both children and adults can benefit from taking this supplement, as directed by a doctor.

The use of Amrase tablets is contraindicated in the following situations:

• Known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or excipients (e.g. lactose, gelatin, beeswax);
• Acute pancreatitis or exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis;
• Severe biliary obstruction or severe liver disease;
• Galactosaemia or other disorders of lactose metabolism.

Caution is recommended when administering Amrase in the following cases:

• Children under 6 years of age (administration must be strictly under medical supervision);
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding – although there are no sufficient controlled studies, it is prudent to consult a doctor before use;
• Diabetes mellitus – due to the sugar content in the film coating, the product may affect blood sugar levels.

Amrase is generally well tolerated. However, in rare cases the following may occur:

• Gastrointestinal disorders: abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea or constipation;
• Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, facial swelling (in case of hypersensitivity to the ingredients);
• Mouth irritation, especially at high doses.

These side effects are generally mild and temporary, but it is recommended to stop taking the product and consult a doctor if persistent or severe reactions occur.

To date, no major interactions between Amrase and other medicines have been reported. However, it is recommended:

• Do not take concomitantly with antacids containing calcium or magnesium, as they may affect the release of enzymes from the enteric coating;
• Do not take with alcohol, as it may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa and reduce the effectiveness of the product.

In case of accidental overdose, the following may occur:

• Nausea, abdominal pain or diarrhoea;
• In extreme cases, electrolyte imbalances or symptoms of intestinal irritation.

In such cases, discontinuation of administration and clinical monitoring are recommended, and treatment is symptomatic.

Amrase should be stored at room temperature, below 25°C, in the original packaging, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
