Description
External antiparasitic for dogs 10-25 Kg, 100+500 mg/ml, 3 pipettes x 2.5 ml, Ataxxa 250
Properties:
- for the treatment and prevention of flea infestation (Ctenocephalides felis);
- the fleas on the dog are killed after one day of treatment;
- a treatment prevents future flea infestations for four weeks;
- the product can be used as part of the treatment strategy against allergic dermatitis caused by fleas (DAP);
- the product shows persistent acaricidal activity against tick infestations (Rhipicephalus sanguineus and lxodes ricinus up to four weeks and Dermacentor reticulatus up to three weeks) and persistent repellent effectiveness (lxodes ricinus) up to three weeks;
- the ticks already present on the dog may not be killed after two days of treatment and may remain attached and visible;
- therefore, it is recommended to remove the ticks present on the dog at the time of treatment, to prevent their attachment and blood feeding;
- a treatment ensures repellent activity (anti-feeding) against the sand fly Phlebotomus perniciosus for up to 3 weeks and against the mosquito Aedes aegypti 7 to 14 days after the treatment.
Mode of administration:
Remove a pipette from the package. Hold the pipette in a vertical position. Lightly hit the narrow end of the pipette with your finger, so that the content squeezes into the body of the pipette, twist and remove the cap. Turn the cap over and place it on the pipette. Press and twist to pierce the seal, then remove the cap from the pipette.
For dogs with a body weight of 10 kg or less:
With the dog in a relaxed position, remove the fur between the shoulder blades, until the skin becomes visible. Apply the tip of the pipette to the skin and press the body of the pipette several times to empty all the contents onto the skin.
For dogs with body weight over 10 kg:
With the dog in a relaxed position, the entire content of the pipette must be applied evenly in four distinct areas of the animal's back, from the shoulder blades to the base of the tail. In each area, remove the fur, until the skin becomes visible. Apply the tip of the pipette to the skin and gently press the body of the pipette, so as to release only part of the content on the skin. Do not apply excessive amounts of solution to any area, as the solution may flow sideways.
Active ingredients:
Permethrin, Imidacloprid
Recommended dose:
It is applied only on intact skin.
The minimum recommended dose is: imidacloprid 10 mg/kg body weight and permethrin 50 mg/kg body weight.
The local skin administration scheme according to body weight is detailed in the table in the leaflet.
For dogs weighing > 40 kg, the appropriate combination of pipettes must be used.
To ensure the correct dose, body weight must be determined as precisely as possible.
To reduce re-infestations with new fleas, it is recommended that all dogs in a household be treated. Other pets in the same household must be treated with appropriate products. For fleas from the animal's environment, the additional use of an appropriate product for the treatment against adult fleas and their stages of development is recommended.
Depending on the parasitic load, it may be necessary to resume the treatment. The interval between two applications must be 4 weeks. In the case of frequent and/or prolonged exposure to water, the interval can be reduced. In these cases, do not resume the treatment more often than once a week.
At the level of the application site, temporary cosmetic changes can be observed (for example, desquamation, white deposits and hair splitting).
Contraindications:
In the absence of available data, the product should not be used in puppies under 7 weeks of age or weighing under 1.5 kg.
It is not used in known cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Do not use in cats.
Form of presentation:
Cardboard box with 3 pipettes.
Route of administration: Topical
Specifications:
Individual attachment of ticks or a single bite of sand flies or Aedes aegypti mosquitoes can occur. For this reason, the transmission of infectious diseases cannot be excluded, if the conditions are unfavorable.
Since the product exerts a repellent action (anti-feeding) against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes for 7 days after the treatment, it is preferable that the product be applied a week before the exposure of the animals to these mosquitoes.
The product remains effective against fleas even if the animal gets wet. After weekly immersion in water for one minute, the period of persistent insecticide efficacy against fleas was not reduced. However, prolonged bathing should be avoided. In cases of frequent and/or prolonged bathing, the effectiveness of the persistent insecticide can be reduced. In these cases, do not repeat the treatment more often than once a week. If the dog must be washed with shampoo, it must be administered before applying the product or at an interval of at least 2 weeks after application, in order to optimize the effectiveness of the product.
The effectiveness of the product against ticks after bathing or shampooing has not been studied.
Target species: Dogs.
Adverse reactions:
In very rare cases, itching, hair loss and erythema, edema and lesions at the application site may occur. These adverse reactions are transient. In very rare cases, dogs can show behavioral changes (agitation, restlessness, panting and rolling), gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, decreased appetite) as well as neurological signs, such as unsteady movements and muscle convulsions or apathy in dog breeds sensitive to the active substance permethrin. These signs are generally transient and transient.
Accidental ingestion can cause transient vomiting and neurological signs, such as tremors and incoordination. Symptomatic treatment will be instituted. There is no specific antidote.
Precautions:
The contents of the pipette must not come into contact with the eyes and mouth of the dog receiving the treatment.
Attention is required for the correct administration of the product, as previously described. In particular, product ingestion by licking the application site or contact with other animals should be avoided.
Do not use in cats.
This product is very toxic to cats and can cause death due to the physiological characteristics of cats, which are not able to metabolize certain substances, including permethrin. To prevent accidental exposure of cats to this product, dogs will be kept separate from cats after treatment, until the application site is dry. Measures will be taken so that cats do not lick the application site of dogs that have been treated with this product. If this happens, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Consult the veterinarian before using the product on debilitated and sick dogs.
