Retinal (0.05%) is an anti-aging ingredient. It supports the processes that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, making the skin firmer, more elastic and younger. Retinal is the active form of vitamin A, which is between retinol and retinoic acid. Retinol requires two steps of metabolic transformation to transform into its active form - retinoic acid (tretinoin), while retina reaches its active form understood by skin cells in one step. It is estimated that retina can convert to retinoic acid more than 10 times more efficiently than retinol, which is why it is considered a highly effective retinoid. Unlike retinol, retinal produces better results at lower concentrations. It also has less irritating potential.
