Description
Carnauba wax is a natural wax obtained from the leaves of the Copernica Cerifera palm tree originating in Brazil. It is used in various fields, for example in the food or pharmaceutical industry.
Due to its hardness and melting at higher temperatures, carnauba wax is often used in the formulation of cosmetic products. It provides stability to lipsticks, cosmetic pencils and mascaras, which maintain their consistency and structure even at higher temperatures, which is an important aspect for maintaining stability, for example, in contact with the skin or in summer.
As an ingredient contained in cosmetic products such as balms, deodorants or some creams, it also acts as a protective barrier that creates a thin film on the skin, depending on the dosage, relatively resistant to water.
Organoleptic properties
Yellowish flakes with a neutral smell.
Properties of carnauba wax:
- High melting point, 80-85°C
- Increases heat and water resistance of cosmetics
- Filmogenic, creates a fine film on the skin
- It helps the lipstick last longer on the lips
- Texturing and thickening agent
- Stabilizer of emulsified products
Cosmetic use:
- Heating in a water bath at 80-85°C, in emulsions in the butter/oil or oil phase
- As a component of creams, balms, ointments, protective creams, usual dose 1 - 5%
- as an ingredient in cosmetics: lipstick, mascara, foundation, lip gloss, usual dose 2-10%
- Can be combined with candelilla wax or beeswax for lipsticks, cosmetic pencils and sticks
- It is contained as an ingredient in the preparation of deodorant sticks and other products in stick or stick form, in a concentration of up to 10%
- It can be combined with beeswax, jasmine wax or tuberose in deodorant sticks
