Description
Melatonin LEK-AM 5 mg is a non-prescription medicine intended for adults. The preparation is in the form of white, round tablets. Indications for the use of the drug are sleep problems related to sleep-wake rhythm disorders resulting, for example, from changes in time zones or shift work, as well as circadian sleep-wake rhythm disorders in blind patients .
What is melatonin?
Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in the human body, produced in the central nervous system by the pineal gland. Melatonin is often called the sleep hormone because it helps regulate the hours of sleep and wakefulness during the day . Each tablet contains 5 mg of a synthetic equivalent of the natural hormone melatonin.
The dose in sleep disorders related to time zone change is 2-3 mg melatonin per day, in the case of circadian rhythm and wakefulness disorders it is 1 to 5 mg, and in circadian sleep and wakefulness disorders in the blind is of 0.5. to 5 mg.
The drug is intended for long-term use, and its effect is observed gradually, often after 2 weeks after taking the first dose.
