Instructions for use

With SNS, babies can be breastfed and at the same time receive additional food intake. Thus, the mother maintains the feeling of breastfeeding and while the baby sucks, it stimulates lactation.
You can feed the baby with previously pumped breast milk or with a food supplement. Depending on the consistency of the liquid, different tubes can be used. The SNS has three tubes with different diameters. We recommend starting with the medium diameter tube.
SNS can be used to:
stimulation of lactation (e.g. after a temporary interruption or if breast milk is insufficient)
babies with cleft lip and palate
babies who are not gaining weight
prematurely
adopted babies

Choose the tube with the right diameter.
Press the valve, of the color corresponding to the chosen tube, on the yellow support. Attention: do not pull the tubes, they are not very resistant and can break.
Carefully pass the tubes through the clamping ring and press the valve assembled in the ring until it closes with a noise.
Fill the bottle with breast milk or with the food recommended by the doctor.
Screw the holding ring onto the bottle, fix both tubes in the notches of the ring to avoid milk leakage while putting the system around the neck.
Hang the SNS around the neck and adjust the height so that the base of the neck of the bottle is at the level of the nipple. The higher you position the bottle, the higher the flow will be.
Place the end of the tube on the tip of the nipple, making sure that it goes beyond it with the apox. 5 mm and fix it vertically near the areola with a piece of adhesive tape.
Position the baby at the breast and release only the tube from the breast with which you are going to breastfeed from the notch of the ring. Tickle the baby's lower lip with the nipple and wait until it opens its big mouth. Position the tube under the center of the baby's upper lip while pulling it closer so that it accepts both the tube and the breast. If you have difficulties, don't worry, it may take several tries.
In order for the food to reach the baby immediately, it may be necessary to press the bottle slightly. Thus, the tubing will fill up and the baby will not swallow air.

Cleaning:
The SNS must be cleaned after each use.
Fill the bottle with hot water and soap, screw the retaining ring and tubing back in place and press the bottle to force the water to flow through the tubes.
Then fill with cold water and force the water to pass through the tubes again.
Squeeze the empty bottle a few times to remove the remaining water droplets on the tubing, until none remain.
Completely disassemble the system and wash the rest of the components with soap and water.
Rinse them well and let them dry on a clean towel.
Reassemble the system.

sterilization
Before the first use and once a day, preferably in the morning, the SNS must be sterilized, respectively boiled. Wash and rinse the components. Put them in a bowl and fill it with cold water up to 3 cm below the lip of the bowl. Cover and boil for 10 min. Pour out the water and let the components cool in the uncovered bowl. Remove the components and put them to dry on a clean towel. To prevent limescale formation, 5 ml of food vinegar can be added to the boiling water. Then rinse all components with cold water. All components can be sterilized in the autoclave.
Tube position
When you will use the SNS for the first time, you must know how to position the tube correctly. Make sure the baby holds the tube on the center of the upper lip and not in the corner of the mouth.
The diameter of the tube
The diameter of the tube is chosen according to the needs. The larger the diameter of the tube, the greater the flow and the less the baby "works". In general, it is preferable to start with the medium tube. To determine the correct size, observe his sucking and swallowing rhythm. If the baby swallows once every 1-3 suctions, the size is correct. If not, make sure the tubing is positioned correctly or try a larger tube.

Reduction of food supplement
One of the purposes for which SNS is used is to bring mother and baby as close as possible to a normal breastfeeding situation. The easiest way to do this is to watch your baby and decrease the amount of supplement as your body starts to produce more milk and/or your baby's sucking improves. You should never put less supplement in the SNS than the baby can eat. Do not try to wean the baby from SNS in this way. Let the baby wean off SNS naturally. As you start to have more milk, the baby will need less and less additional food. Let your doctor decide when to stop using SNS.

Breast pumps
