Octenisan

Octenisan is available in various forms—emulsion, nasal gel, or impregnated gloves.

Octenisan cleansing lotion – a pH-neutral liquid lotion, free from colorants and fragrances, designed for washing the entire body and hair, with a gentle action on sensitive or allergic skin.

Octenisan Nasal Gel – a sterile, moisturizing, and decontaminating hydrogel formulated for the nasal vestibule, promoting the mechanical removal of particles, residues, and microorganisms, including MDROs.

Octenisan washing gloves – disposable items, impregnated with octenidine and allantoin cleaning solution, designed for complete hygiene of immobilized patients, without the need for subsequent rinsing.

Shulke Octenisan has the following indications for use:

• Prevention and control of skin and nasal colonization with multidrug-resistant bacteria (MRSA, VRE, etc.).
• Preoperative preparation of patients by decontaminating the entire body.
• Hygiene of patients in intensive care units, including those who are immobilized or have fragile skin.
• Gentle washing of sensitive skin or skin that is intolerant to conventional soaps.
• Reducing the risk of nosocomial infections through an integrated cleaning and decontamination protocol.

Octenisan washing lotion - Apply undiluted to wet skin or hair, directly or with a washcloth, massaging gently.

Octenisan md nasal gel - Apply twice daily for decontamination and hydration. Use a cotton swab to distribute the gel in the nasal vestibule, massaging gently for even dispersion.

Octenisan gloves - Use one glove for each area of the body. Leave the solution to act for at least 30 seconds; no rinsing is necessary.

Octenisan is not indicated in the following situations:

• Hypersensitivity or known allergy to octenidine lotion, allantoin, or other ingredients in the formula.
• Antimicrobial washing of deep wounds or large areas of non-epithelialized skin without medical advice.

Octenisan decontamination wash lotion is intended for external use and should not be ingested.

In MDRO decontamination protocols, use must be combined with infection control measures (changing linen, sanitizing the environment, protecting staff).

In the case of nasal gel, it is important to avoid deep application to prevent mechanical irritation of the mucosa.

When used correctly, no significant adverse reactions have been reported.

Rare local reactions such as mild burning sensation, pruritus, or transient erythema may occur. Hypersensitivity reactions require immediate discontinuation of use and medical consultation.

Avoid combining with soaps, oils, or anionic detergents, as they may reduce the effectiveness of octenidine. 

Concomitant use with PVP-iodine is not recommended (risk of discoloration and interference with the antiseptic effect of iodine).

No cases of cutaneous or nasal overdose have been reported. Accidental ingestion requires emergency medical evaluation, as it may cause gastric irritation and electrolyte imbalances.

Excessive application may cause skin dryness or local irritation.

Store at room temperature, away from frost and direct sunlight. The nasal gel and emulsion should be stored with the cap tightly closed to prevent contamination. Impregnated gloves should be used immediately after opening the package.
